PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus configured to prevent a driving unit from being enlarged.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: housing means; transfer means; a first conveyance path; a second conveyance path; first conveyance means for conveying a recording material to the transfer means at a predetermined speed; and second conveyance means. The image forming apparatus includes: driving means for rotating the first and second conveyance means; switching means for selecting a first state where the driving means transmits driving force to the first conveyance means or a second state where the driving means transmits the driving force to the first and second conveyance means; and control means for controlling the driving means and the switching means. The control means rotates the driving means at a first rotation speed when the first conveyance means conveys the recording material at a predetermined speed, rotates the driving means at a second rotation speed lower than the first rotation speed when conveying the recording material at a speed lower than the predetermined speed; and rotates the driving means at the second rotation speed before the switching means switches the driving means from the first state to the second state. 【課題】 駆動部の大型化を抑えた画像形成装置を提供する。【解決手段】 収容手段と、転写手段と、第１の搬送路と、第２の搬送路と、記録材を所定の速度で転写手段へ搬送する第１の搬送手段と、第２の搬送手段を有する画像形成装置において、第１の搬送手段と第２の搬送手段を回転駆動する駆動手段と、駆動手段が第１の搬送手段へ駆動力を伝達する第１の状態と、第１の搬送手段及び第２の搬送手段へ駆動力を伝達する第２の状態を切り換える切換手段と、駆動手段と切換手段を制御する制御手段を有し、制御手段は、第１の搬送手段により所定の速度で記録材を搬送する際に駆動手段を第１の回転速度で回転させ、所定の速度より遅い速度で記録材を搬送する際に第１の回転速度より遅い第２の回転速度で回転させ、切換手段によって駆動手段を第１の状態から第２の状態に切り換えるタイミングの前に、駆動手段を第２の回転速度で回転させることを特徴とする。【選択図】 図７
