An attribute information generation unit 102 generates attribute information representing the attribute of a pixel from the multi-value image data, and stores the generated attribute information in the storage unit 103. A halftone processing unit 106 performs halftone processing on the multi-value image data on the basis of the tone information and attribute information stored in the storage unit 103. 【課題】 スクリーン処理を行う画像処理装置において、蓄積するデータ量を削減するとともに、画像の暈けや潰れを防ぐ。【解決手段】 階調サンプリング部101は、多値画像データを所定の画素範囲ごとにサンプリングして画素範囲ごとの階調情報を生成し、生成した階調情報をデータ蓄積部103に格納する。属性情報生成部102は、多値画像データから画素の属性を示す属性情報を生成し、生成した属性情報をデータ蓄積部103に格納する。ハーフトーン処理部106は、データ蓄積部103に蓄積された階調情報と属性情報に基づき、多値画像データのハーフトーン処理を行う。【選択図】 図1
