Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a viscosity index improver which can sufficiently decrease a high shear viscosity at 100°C while maintaining a high shear viscosity at 150°C, and to provide a lubrication oil additive and a lubricating oil composition containing the viscosity index improver.SOLUTION: There is provided a poly(meth)acrylate-based viscosity index improver having a polymer chain containing a structural unit represented by the following general formula (1), where the weight average molecular weight of the poly(meth)acrylate-based viscosity index improver is 100000 or more and the ratio (Mw/Mn) between the weight average molecular weight (Mw) and the number average molecular weight (mn) is 1.6 or less. 【課題】150℃での高せん断粘度を維持しつつ、100℃での高せん断粘度を十分に低下させることが可能な粘度指数向上剤、並びに該粘度指数向上剤を含有する潤滑油添加剤及び潤滑油組成物を提供すること。【解決手段】下記一般式(1)で表される構造単位を含む重合鎖を有し、重量平均分子量Mwが100,000以上であり、重量平均分子量Mwと数平均分子量Mnとの比Mw/Mnが1.6以下である、ポリ(メタ)アクリレート系粘度指数向上剤。【選択図】なし
