Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer sheet capable of preventing the generation of print wrinkles at the time of image formation and the adhesion, to a heating device, of debris of a back surface layer and to provide a method for manufacturing a thermal transfer sheet.SOLUTION: In a thermal transfer sheet 10 provided by configuring a dye layer 3 on one surface of a substrate 1 and by configuring a back surface layer 5 on the other surface of the substrate 1, the back surface layer 5 includes: a polyvinyl acetal resin A having a number-average molecular weight of 22000 or above and 32000 or below; a polyvinyl acetal resin B having a number-average molecular weight of 12000 or above and below 22000; and a lubricant component in a state where the ratio of the mass of the polyvinyl acetal resin A with respect to the sum of the respective masses of the polyvinyl acetal resin A and polyvinyl acetal resin B is 5 mass% or above and below 50 mass%, where the ratio of the mass of the lubricant component with respect to the total solid content of the back surface layer 5 is 13 mass% or above and 17 mass% or below, and where the polyvinyl acetal resin A and polyvinyl acetal resin B have been cured by an isocyanate-based curative. 【課題】画像形成時における印画シワの発生や、及び加熱デバイスに背面層のカスが付着することを防止できる熱転写シートを提供すること、及び熱転写シートの製造方法を提供する。【解決手段】基材1の一方の面に染料層3が設けられ、基材1の他方の面に背面層5が設けられた熱転写シート10において、背面層5は、数平均分子量が22000以上32000以下のポリビニルアセタール樹脂Aと、数平均分子量が12000以上22000未満のポリビニルアセタール樹脂Bと、滑剤成分を含有しており、ポリビニルアセタール樹脂Aとポリビニルアセタール樹脂Bの合計質量に対する、ポリビニルアセタール樹脂Aの質量が5質量%以上50質量%未満であり、背面層5の固形分総量に対する、滑剤成分の質量が13質量%以上17質量%以下であり、ポリビニルアセタール樹脂A、及びポリビニルアセタール樹脂Bが、イソシアネート系硬化剤によって硬化されている。【選択図】図1
