Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous carbon electrode for a solid polymer type fuel battery which is high in surface smoothness.SOLUTION: A porous carbon electrode comprises: a porous carbon electrode base material with two coating layers formed on at least one side of the porous carbon electrode base material and each including carbon powder and a water-repellent agent. In the porous carbon electrode, the difference between the thickness of the coating layer 1 on the side of the porous electrode base material, and the thickness of the outer coating layer 2 is 1-48 μm. It is preferred that, in the porous electrode base material, the coating layer 1 has a thickness of 2-50 μm, and the coating layer 2 has a thickness of 2-50 μm. 【課題】表面の平滑性が高い固体高分子型燃料電池用の多孔質炭素電極の提供。【解決手段】多孔質炭素電極基材の少なくとも一方の面上に、カーボン粉と撥水剤からなるコーティング層が2層形成された多孔質炭素電極であって、多孔質電極基材側のコーティング層1の厚みと、外側のコーティング層2の厚みの差が1〜48μmである多孔質炭素電極。好ましくは、コーティング層1の厚みが2〜50μm、コーティング層2の厚みが2〜50μmである上記の多孔質電極基材。【選択図】図1
