Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively adjust the adhesion amount of lubricant on the surface of an image carrier without the need of the control by software.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes a lubricant supply unit 70 that supplies lubricant onto the surface of a photoreceptor drum 43Y, a lubricant removing unit 80 that removes lubricant from the surface of the photoreceptor drum, and a lubricant application and removal unit (adjustment mechanism unit) 45Y that mechanically adjust the power of the lubricant supply unit to supply the lubricant or the power of the lubricant removing unit 80 to remove the lubricant by using a change in the physical amount due to the adhesion amount of the lubricant on the surface of the photoreceptor drum. 【課題】ソフトウェアによる制御を必要とせずに、像担持体の表面上における潤滑剤の付着量を低コストで調整する。【解決手段】画像形成装置であって、感光体ドラム４３Ｙの表面に潤滑剤を供給する潤滑剤供給部７０と、感光体ドラムの表面から潤滑剤を除去する潤滑剤除去部８０と、感光体ドラムの表面上の潤滑剤の付着量に起因する物理量変化を利用して、潤滑剤供給部による潤滑剤の供給力あるいは潤滑剤除去部による潤滑剤の除去力を機械的に調整する潤滑剤塗布除去部（調整機構部）４５Ｙと、を備えている。【選択図】図２
