Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device that can suppress deformation of a shield member due to the excessive temperature rise, and an image forming apparatus that includes the fixing device.SOLUTION: A fixing device 100 includes a hollow surface endless moving body 121, a pressure member 122 that is brought into contact with the outer peripheral surface of the surface endless moving body, a nip forming member 24 that is arranged on the inner peripheral side of the surface endless moving body and brought into contact with the pressure member with the surface endless moving body interposed therebetween to form a nip part, and a heat source 23 that is arranged on the inner peripheral side of the surface endless moving body and heats the surface endless moving body by radiation heat, and passes recording materials P through the nip part to fix images on the recording materials. The fixing device 100 is further provided with a plurality of shield members 29 that can be moved between a shield position to shield the radiation heat from the heat source to a non-paper width area of the surface endless moving body and a retreat position retreated from the shield position, and has control means for controlling the operation of the shield members.
