Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surge protective element in which burning of an element due to huge arc is prevented when a DC high voltage is applied between electrodes.SOLUTION: In a varistor 100A, as a surge protective element, including a varistor element 30A having non-linear resistance characteristics, and a pair of electrodes 10A, 20A connected therewith, at least one electrode 10A out of the pair of electrodes 10A, 20A is provided with two planar terminals 11A, 12A, and these terminals 11A, 12A are connected in common so that a DC voltage is applied between the terminals 11A, 12A and the terminal 21A of the other electrode 20A. Consequently, burning of the varistor 100A due to huge arc is prevented when a DC high voltage is applied between the terminals 11A, 12A and the terminal 21A. 【課題】電極間に直流高電圧が印加されて場合のアークの巨大化による素子の焼損を未然に防止するようにしたサージ防護素子を提供する。【解決手段】非直線性抵抗特性を有するバリスタエレメント30Aと、このバリスタエレメント30Aに接続された一対の電極10A,20Aと、を有するサージ防護素子としてのバリスタ100Aにおいて、一対の電極10A,20Aのうち少なくとも一方の電極10Aに二つの板状端子11A,12Aを設け、これらの端子11A,12Aを共通接続して端子11A,12Aと他方の電極20Aの端子21Aとの間に直流電圧が印加されるように構成されている。これにより、端子11A,12Aと端子21Aとの間に直流の高電圧が印加された場合のアークの巨大化によるバリスタ100Aの焼損を未然に防止する。【選択図】図1
