PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the reduction in reading accuracy and damage of a reading part caused by the temperature rise of the reading part by the heat of a recording material.SOLUTION: In an image forming apparatus which includes the reading part reading the image of a document facing a reading surface, an opposing surface forming at least a part of a conveyance path where a sheet is conveyed and facing the reading part, a transfer part transferring a toner image to the recording material, and a fixing part heating the recording material on which the toner image is transferred, to fix the toner image to the recording material and in which the recording material after passing through a guide surface and the fixing part is conveyed on the conveyance path, the reading part is movable between a reading position where the sheet between the reading surface and the opposing surface is read and a retracted position where the reading surface is more retracted from the opposing surface than the reading position and when the recording material after passing through the fixing part is conveyed on the conveyance path, the reading part is in the retracted position. 【課題】 記録材の熱によって読取部が昇温し、読取部の読取精度が低下したり破損したりしてしまうこと抑制する。【解決手段】 読取面に対向した原稿の画像を読み取る読取部と、シートを搬送する搬送路の少なくとも一部を形成し、前記読取部に対向する対向面と、記録材にトナー像を転写する転写部と、前記トナー像を転写された記録材を加熱して、前記記録材にトナー像を定着させる定着部と、を有し、前記ガイド面と前記定着部を通過した記録材が前記搬送路を搬送される画像形成装置において、前記読取部は、前記読取面と前記対向面との間にあるシートを読み取る読取位置と、前記読取位置よりも前記読取面が前記対向面から退避した退避位置との間を移動可能で、前記定着部を通過した記録材が前記搬送路を搬送される際、前記読取部は前記退避位置にあることを特徴とする。【選択図】 図１２
