PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte for a redox flow battery capable of suppressing reduction in battery characteristics and also to provide the redox flow battery using the same.SOLUTION: Disclosed is an electrolyte for a redox flow battery in which the content of an organic substance having a portion consisting of aliphatic hydrocarbon having carbons of 8 or more and 24 or less is 5 mg/L or less. The electrolyte for the redox flow battery is excluded which contains at least one ester based organic substance having the portion consisting of 1-tetradecene, n-decane, 1-octanethiol, and the aliphatic hydrocarbon having carbons of 8. 【課題】電池特性の低下を抑制することができるレドックスフロー電池用電解液と、それを用いたレドックスフロー電池を提供する。【解決手段】炭素数が８以上、２４以下の脂肪族炭化水素からなる部位を有する有機物の含有量が５ｍｇ／リットル以下であるレドックスフロー電池用電解液である。但し、１−ｔｅｔｒａｄｅｃｅｎｅ、ｎ−ｄｅｃａｎｅ、１−ｏｃｔａｎｅｔｈｉｏｌ、および炭素数が８の脂肪族炭化水素からなる部位を有するエステル系有機物の少なくとも１種を含有するレドックスフロー電池用電解液は除く。【選択図】図１
