Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a bit error rate of data recorded using a magnetic head provided with an STO.SOLUTION: A disk storage device according to the present embodiment comprises: a magnetic head; a determination unit; and a controller. The magnetic head includes a high frequency assist element arranged near a main magnetic pole generating a recording magnetic field for performing vertical magnetic recording on the magnetic disk in response to an input recording signal. During data recording, the magnetic head applies a high frequency magnetic field from the high frequency assist element onto the magnetic disk. The determination unit determines whether a recording density of the recording signal is a low density region or a high density region relative to a reference density at certain intervals. The controller relatively lowers a current level for applying a current to the high frequency assist element from the high density region at timing of the low density region in accordance with the low density region or the high density region during the data recording. 【課題】STOを備えた磁気ヘッドを用いて記録したデータのビットエラーレートを向上させることにある。【解決手段】本実施形態のディスク記憶装置は、磁気ヘッドと、判定部と、コントローラとを具備する。前記磁気ヘッドは、入力される記録信号に応じて磁気ディスク上に垂直磁気記録を行なうための記録磁界を発生する主磁極の近傍に配置された高周波アシスト素子を有し、データ記録時に前記高周波アシスト素子から高周波磁界を磁気ディスク上に印加する。前記判定部は、一定間隔毎に前記記録信号の記録密度が基準密度に対して低密度領域又は高密度領域であるかを判定する。前記コントローラは、前記データ記録時に低密度領域又は高密度領域に応じて前記低密度領域のタイミングで前記高周波アシスト素子に通電させる電流レベルを相対的に前記高密度領域より低下させる。【選択図】図1
