Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve timing adjusting device capable of suppressing operation time of an electric pump.SOLUTION: A valve timing adjusting device includes a variable mechanism for varying a relative rotational phase between a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine and a camshaft of an intake valve by supplying and delivering working fluid, a lock mechanism for switching between a state in which the relative rotational phase is held to be a prescribed phase and a state in which the holding is released by supplying and delivering working fluid, an oil control valve for switching a supply and delivery mode of the working fluid to the variable mechanism and the lock mechanism, and an electric pump for supplying the working fluid to the variable mechanism and the lock mechanism through the oil control valve. When the relative rotational phase is controlled by the working fluid fed from the electric pump, driving of the electric pump is started (step S13) after driving of the oil control valve is started (step S11, step S12; YES). 【課題】電動ポンプの作動時間を抑制することができるバルブタイミング調整装置を提供する。【解決手段】バルブタイミングの調整装置は、作動油が給排されることにより内燃機関のクランク軸と吸気バルブのカム軸との相対回転位相を変更する可変機構と、作動油が給排されることにより相対回転位相が特定位相に保持される状態とその保持が解除される状態とを切り替えるロック機構と、可変機構及びロック機構への作動油の給排態様を切り替えるオイルコントロールバルブと、同オイルコントロールバルブを通じて可変機構及びロック機構に作動油を供給する電動ポンプとを備える。電動ポンプから送液される作動油によって相対回転位相を制御する場合には、オイルコントロールバルブの駆動を開始した後に(ステップS11,ステップS12:YES)、電動ポンプの駆動を開始する(ステップS13)。【選択図】図7
