Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device that can adequately prevent run-away of heater control for heating a fixing roller.SOLUTION: In a fixing device 5, a fixing roller 11 and a pressure roller 12 are brought into pressure contact with each other to form a nip area between the fixing roller 11 and the pressure roller 12. Since a thermostat 17 is arranged at a position on the opposite side to the pressure roller 12 with respect to the fixing roller 11, when the temperature of the fixing roller 11 continues to increase beyond a specified temperature, a bearing of the fixing roller 11 is softened or melted, and the fixing roller 11 is displaced toward the opposite side to the pressure roller 12 to be brought into contact with the thermostat 17. As a result of this contact, the surface temperature of the fixing roller 11 is directly sensed by the thermostat 17; the sensing temperature of the thermostat 17 is certainly increased to an upper limit temperature; the thermostat 17 turned on to off; and energization of a heater lamp 16 is certainly stopped. 【課題】定着ローラを加熱するためのヒータ制御の暴走を適確に阻止することができる定着装置を提供する。【解決手段】定着装置5では、定着ローラ11と加圧ローラ12とを相互に圧接させ、定着ローラ11と加圧ローラ12との間にニップ域を形成している。サーモスタット17は、定着ローラ11に対して加圧ローラ12とは反対側の位置に配置されていることから、定着ローラ11が規定温度を超えて上昇し続けたときには、定着ローラ11の軸受けが軟化もしくは溶融して、加圧ローラ12とは反対側に変位してきた定着ローラ11と接触する。この結果、サーモスタット17により定着ローラ11の表面温度が直接感知され、サーモスタット17の感知温度が上限温度まで確実に上昇して、サーモスタット17がオンからオフに切替わり、ヒータランプ16の通電が確実に停止される。【選択図】図3
