Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen generator operation method which can reduce the amounts of CO and ammonia generated by a reforming reaction.SOLUTION: In a hydrogen generator operation method of subjecting a hydrocarbon gas and steam to a reforming reaction using a Ru-based reforming catalyst and then reducing carbon monoxide by a transforming catalyst and a selective oxidation catalyst to generate a hydrogen-containing gas, when a hydrogen generator is in a rated load state, a ratio of steam to carbon (S/C) is adjusted to 3.5-5, and the outlet temperature of the reforming catalyst is adjusted to 500-600°C, and when the hydrogen generator is in a state of low load of 30% or less of rated load, S/C is adjusted to 4.5-5.5, and the outlet temperature of the reforming catalyst is adjusted to 480-580°C.
