Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To mitigate an impulsive force that is caused by a mechanical play.SOLUTION: A knee joint actuator 18 is effectively made to momentarily bring forth the maximum output during a predetermined period T for decreasing an impulsive force generated in the movement inversion of a knee joint actuator 18. A walking support device 1 rotates positively and negatively the knee joint actuator 18 at the maximum output by a small quantity, when powered on while the walking support device 1 is not worn for automatically setting this T, and detects the amount of mechanical play. The reason of the positive rotation and the negative rotation is to obtain the amount of play in the positive rotation direction and the amount of play in the negative rotation direction. Then, the walking support device 1 measures the amount of mechanical play by the time before eliminating the play. The measured time is set as T. Thus, in this embodiment, the amount of mechanical play is measured by a play elimination time in the maximum output of the knee joint actuator 18, and the measured time is set in the period T.
