Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of efficiently managing an energy saving operation pattern by combining learning with manual settings.SOLUTION: An energy saving setting unit 260 of an image forming apparatus includes: transition control means for returning the image forming apparatus to a normal operation state upon reception of operation during energy saving operation, and transitioning the image forming apparatus to the energy saving operation state when there is no operation during a predetermined transition time in the normal operation state; totaling means 970, 972, and 542 for totaling operation states of the image forming apparatus in respective time zones for each day of the week; transition time determination means 544 and 546 for determining the transition time in the respective time zone for each day of the week on the basis of the totaled operation states; and setting reception means for receiving the settings of the transition time by a user in a specific time zone on a specific date. One of the totaling means 970, 972, and 542 is periodical totaling means 972 for periodically totaling operation states of the image forming apparatus for each time zone, for each day of the week, regarding each time zone for days other than the specific date, and each time zone on the specific date other than the specific time zone.
