PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve downsizing and thickness reduction of a document feeder which includes a retractable document loading tray to provide the document feeder which does not impair the visibility of a document discharge tray part.SOLUTION: A document feeder 10 of the invention includes: a housing which stores a paper feeding mechanism; a document loading tray 30 on which a document is placed; and a document discharge tray 40 which collects the document. The housing includes an upper cover 20 and a first protruding part 21 provided at the upper cover 20. The document loading tray 30 includes an engagement part 31 and an opening part 32 and is engaged with the housing so as to swing between a first position where the document loading tray 30 is opened to the document discharge tray 40 side and a second position where the document loading tray 30 is closed to the upper cover 20 side with the engagement part 31 set as a supporting point. The opening part 32 is disposed in the first protruding part 21 when the document loading tray 30 is in the second position.
