Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating state detection system capable of detecting a coating state without switching sensor directions even if a coating material is coated along a curved locus, and a coating system including the coating state detection system.SOLUTION: The coating state detection system includes: a sensor 52 attached to a nozzle 24 so as to surround a discharge port 26; and a detection control device determining whether a coating failure occurs on the basis of detection information obtained by the sensor 52. If a region surrounding a discharge region of the discharge port 26 with the nozzle 24 is defined as a detection region α, the sensor 52 can detect an overlap state between a coating-material coating region γ and the detection region α on a coating target. The coating state detection system can determine whether the coating failure occurs by means of the detection control device 54 in accordance with the overlap state between the detection region α and the coating region γ.
