Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous electrode binder for a secondary battery, having excellent conductivity and battery characteristics, and capable of being suitably used as a water-soluble binder to be contained in a composition forming a secondary battery electrode.SOLUTION: An aqueous electrode binder for a secondary battery includes a water-soluble polymer and an isothiazolinone-based compound. The water-soluble polymer contains 5-95 mass% of a structural unit derived from an ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid salt monomer relative to 100 mass% of the total structural unit included in the water-soluble polymer, and has a viscosity at 25°C and pH 7 in a solution having a nonvolatile content of 2 mass%, as measured by JIS K 7117-1, of 100 mPa s or more. The content of the isothiazolinone-based compound is 0.001-30 pts.mass relative to the 100 pts.mass of the water-soluble polymer.
