Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motor assist bicycle capable of realizing an appropriate power assist responsively to a road condition in the case of detecting a wheel slip.SOLUTION: An electric motor 30 drives a wheel by generating assist drive force corresponding to input torque generated by tread force. An MCU 50 detects a slip of a wheel, determines a magnitude of the slip, and detects the disappearance of the slip on the basis of a motor torque detection signal supplied from a motor torque detection unit 45 and of a waveform of a revolution speed detection signal supplied from a motor speed detection unit 46. The MCU 50, upon detecting occurrence of a wheel slip, decreases the assist drive force until the slip disappears, and then increases the magnitude of the assist drive force inversely proportional to the magnitude of the slip.
