Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow for high-precision lens position control without being affected by the difference in characteristics due to the twist direction of a torque wire in an endoscope which uses the torque wire to drive a lens.SOLUTION: On power-on of an electronic endoscope, a motor rotates to a point P1 in a tele-side where the motor stops by a load applied to it. The motor then rotates to a point P2 in a wide-side where the motor stops by a load applied to it. During the rotation from the point P1 to the point P2, the number of motor rotations is counted to detect the amount of motor rotation with respect to a movable range A1 of the motor. Assuming that the center of the movable range A1 matches the center of a movable range A2 of a focus lens, the motor is moved to the center of the movable range A1. The actual magnification of the focus lens is calculated from a photographed image and compared with the assumed magnification to match the center of the movable range A1 with the center of the movable range A2.
