Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that suppresses the occurrence of color shift.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus has a plurality of image holding bodies arranged for holding toner images, and a belt-like body for circularly moving to receive transfer of the toner images on the plurality of image holding bodies. The image forming apparatus further includes: a charge application unit that is arranged between a first image holding body located on the uppermost stream side of the plurality of image holding bodies in a direction of movement of the belt-like body and a second image holding body located on the second uppermost stream side of the plurality of image holding bodies, and applies charge to a toner forming the toner image transferred onto the belt-like body; and an electric field application unit that is arranged on the downstream side of a third image holding body located on the lowermost stream side of the plurality of image holding bodies in the direction of movement and on the upstream side of a secondary transfer position to a sheet, and applies an electric field to generate a force to move, in a direction to separate from the surface of the belt-like body, the toner applied with charge by the charge application unit in an overlapped toner image comprising a plurality of toner images formed respectively on the plurality of image holding bodies and transferred to be overlapped with one another onto the belt-like body.
