Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat treatment apparatus in which occurrence of poor appearance, e.g., sagging of a coating film, pinholes, or streaks, can be suppressed when thermosetting a cylindrical or endless belt-like heated object having an outer peripheral surface coated with paint and energy saving is achieved, and to provide a heat treatment method.SOLUTION: A heat treatment apparatus for thermosetting a paint applied to the outer peripheral surface of a cylindrical heated object includes a pair of holding members 1 for supporting the heated object at both ends while sealing thermally, a support rotation mechanism 5 for holding the virtual central axis passing through the centers of the pair of holding members 1 horizontally, and rotating the holding members with the virtual central axis as the axis of rotation, and an internal heat source arranged on the inside of the heated object and generating heat.
