Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine which can accurately detect a cloth thickness and can thereby change the operation locus of a feed dog even when a presser foot is replaced.SOLUTION: A CPU can perform manual zero position setting processing. The CPU displays an instruction message for the state of a cloth thickness of 0 mm on a liquid crystal panel (S27). A user who has seen the message lowers a presser foot to the state of the cloth thickness of 0 mm. The CPU determines whether a determination switch is pressed or not (S28). When the determination switch is pressed (S28: YES), the CPU sets a present presser foot height as a zero position and stores the output voltage of a Hall sensor in an EEPROM (S29). Thus, when the presser foot is replaced, an operator can set the zero position of the presser foot height, so that the thickness of cloth to be sewn is accurately detected. As a result, a sewing machine can appropriately change the operation locus of a feed dog according to the cloth thickness, so that the sewing machine can perform appropriate sewing according to the cloth thickness.
