Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a desalination system capable of reducing the pollution of a reverse osmosis membrane by sufficiently removing organic matter in pretreatment and capable of stably obtaining fresh water at a low operation cost.SOLUTION: The desalination system comprises: a disinfection device 11 arranged on the upstream side of a reverse osmosis membrane module 16 and applying disinfection treatment (oxidation treatment) to seawater; a biological treatment tank 13 arranged between the disinfection device 11 and the reverse osmosis membrane module 16 and holding organisms assimilating organic matter; and a control apparatus 17 of controlling the disinfection device 11 in such a manner that the concentration of living thing easily decomposable organic matter in the downstream side of the biological treatment tank 13 is made lower than that in the upstream side of the disinfection device 11.
