Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator which includes a small auxiliary brake and enables easy attachment work of the auxiliary brake.SOLUTION: An elevator includes: a car 1 which moves up and down in a hoistway 8; a balancing weight 3 connected with the car 1 through a rope 2; a drive sheave 4 which drives the rope 2; a motor part 10 which is connected with the drive sheave 4 through a gear mechanism 5 and includes a motor casing 12 and a main shaft 11; a main brake 20 which puts a brake on the main shaft 11; and an auxiliary brake 30 which is provided at the main shaft 11 separately from the main brake 20 and puts a brake on the main shaft 11 on the basis of an abnormal signal. The auxiliary brake 30 includes a disc 31 fixed to the main shaft 11 and a brake shoe 32 which presses the disc 31 and puts a brake on the disc 31. The brake shoe 32 is attached to the motor casing 12.
