Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reciprocating compressor capable of effectively reducing a leakage amount of compressed gas and capable of extending life of piston rings.SOLUTION: The reciprocating compressor includes a cylinder 22 having a compression chamber 21 communicated with a low-stage side compression part, and a piston 23 reciprocally slidably arranged in the cylinder. The reciprocating compressor further includes: many piston rings 52, 53 attached to an outer peripheral surface of the piston while being divided into two piston ring groups 54, 55; and gas introduction means 56 for introducing compressed gas of a predetermined pressure equal to or lower than that of compressed gas to be sucked into the compression chamber into a gap between a cylinder inner surface and a piston outer peripheral surface corresponding to a space between the two piston ring groups. Each of the piston rings 52 of the piston tip-side piston ring group 54 comprises a single member having an abutment, and each of the piston rings 53 of the piston base end-side piston ring group 55 includes at least a first member having an abutment and a second member for covering the abutment of the first member from the inside.
