Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary motor including a moving magnetic field generating device which can increase travel speed of a moving magnetic field compared to a conventional case.SOLUTION: A moving magnetic field generating device includes a magnet array 5 consisting of a plurality of magnets 3 arranged at first pitches so that N poles and S poles are alternately arranged in a line. The device also includes first and second magnetic pole piece arrays 7 and 9 which leave intervals with the magnet array 5, allow the magnet array 5 to be inserted in-between, extend along the magnet array 5 and are arranged with a prescribed phase difference between them. The first magnetic pole piece array 7 is installed so that a plurality of first magnetic pole pieces 8 having lengths which face at least two adjacent magnets of the magnet array 5 form a line at second pitches. The second magnetic pole piece array 9 is constituted in the same way as the first magnetic pole piece array 7. One of the first and second magnetic pole piece arrays 7 and 9 and the magnet array 5 is moved at prescribed relative speed against the other array.
