Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crossing obstacle detection device making it possible to realize a failsafe property despite an inexpensive structure while employing a highly versatile and mass-productive entity detection device and sustaining the versatility.SOLUTION: A crossing obstacle detection device 1 includes one or plural detection units each including two entity detection sensors 2, 2 that detect whether an obstacle is present or absent at a railroad crossing, and a failsafe collation mechanism 6 that collates pieces of obstacle presence/absence information sent from the respective sensors 2, 2, outputs a signal which signifies system abnormality, in a case where a result of the collation demonstrates that the pieces of information are inconsistent with each other, and thus brings about a transition into a safe side, that is, into an "Obstacle Present" state. GPS antennas and GPS receivers 8 that acquire time information sent from a GPS is connected to the sensors 2, 2 and the collation mechanism 6. The collation mechanism 6 synchronizes collation processing on the basis of the pieces of time information acquired via the antennas and receivers 8, and pieces of time information to be transmitted from the respective sensors 2, 2 together with the pieces of obstacle presence/absence information.
