Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing an organic EL device which allows for enhancement in the reliability of an organic EL device, by reducing concentration of stress on each layer end and suppressing separation due to the concentration of stress, even when a roll-to-roll process is used, and to provide an organic EL device.SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing an organic EL device includes a substrate supply step for supplying a substrate 101 from a feed roll to a take-up roll, a first electrode layer formation step for forming a first electrode layer 102 on the substrate 101, an organic EL layer formation step for forming an organic EL layer 103 on the first electrode layer 102, and a second electrode layer formation step for forming a second electrode layer 104 on the organic EL layer 103. The first electrode layer 102 is formed using a shadow mask, and at least a part of the side face of the first electrode layer 102 is a taper surface 102T inclining inward from the lower side toward the upper side, and the angle formed by the taper surface 102T of the first electrode layer 102 and a face of the substrate 101 on the first electrode layer 102 is 1° or less.
