Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sapphire substrate for forming a light emitting diode chip capable of emitting light in multiple directions, a light emitting diode chip, and a light emitting device.SOLUTION: The sapphire substrate includes a growth surface and a second main surface opposite to each other. The thickness of the sapphire substrate is 200 μm or greater. The light emitting diode chip includes the sapphire substrate and at least one light emitting diode structure. The light emitting diode structure is disposed on the growth surface and forms a first main surface which can emit light together with a part of the growth surface not having the light emitting diode structure. At least a part of light beams emitted from the light emitting diode structure pass through the sapphire substrate and emerge from the second main surface. The light emitting device includes at least one light emitting diode chip capable of emitting light in multiple directions, and a supporting base. The light emitting diode chip is disposed on the supporting base.
