Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism to read an image of a document, and when the document is a sheet of a type not suitable for printing, prevent an image from being printed on the document.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: conveying means for conveying a document; reading means for reading the document conveyed by the conveying means; detecting means for detecting the sheet type of the document; and printing means for printing an image on the document conveyed by the conveying means when the type of the sheet detected by the detecting means is suitable for printing, and not printing an image on the document conveyed by the conveying means when the type of the sheet detected by the detecting means is not suitable for printing.
