PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device which can be used not only for a reading light, but also for a table lamp type device or a torch type device.SOLUTION: A lighting device 10, for irradiating a surface, includes a light emitting element 20 and a lighting body 30, and the light emitting element 20 emits artificial light 21, 21' and a housing component 40 envelopes the light emitting element 20 and supports an irradiating body 30. The irradiating body 30 includes a transparent light guiding material suitable for irradiating a surface lying below the irradiating body 30. The irradiating body 30 includes a light extraction layer 50 so structured to receive the artificial lights 21, 21' from the light emitting element 20 and to change directions of the artificial lights 21, 21' toward the surface.
