Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refractory brick protective material capable of suppressing deterioration of refractory brick by preventing melting of a magnesium portion from refractory brick formed on a converter inner wall, because, since a substrate inputted into the converter starts a reaction gradually with heat, carbon dioxide or moisture, by coating the surface of the substrate of magnesium hydroxide having the size of 3-50 mm with a coating material based on lime or the like having a melting point of ≥1,700°C, sudden expansion caused by moisture retention can be suppressed greatly, and decomposition of a magnesium portion in the substrate is promoted in an initial stage of converter refining, to thereby heighten the magnesium portion in the converter; and to provide a method for manufacturing the same.SOLUTION: A refractory brick protective material has a substrate having a particle size of 3-50 mm, and a coating material for coating the surface of the substrate, having a melting point of ≥1,700°C; wherein the substrate is some one or more selected from inorganic salts of magnesium, oxo acid salts and minerals.
