Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agent to be used for a treatment of conditions associated with extracellular matrix degradation such as insulitis or autoimmune Type-1 diabetes, in particular, used for improving transplantation outcomes for the treatment of insulitis or Type-1 diabetes.SOLUTION: An agent for inhibiting degradation of a heparan sulfate proteoglycan in an extracellular matrix associated with islet beta cells is used. A method is provided, including a stage of bringing the extracellular matrix into contact with an effective amount of a heparanase inhibitor.
