Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of efficiently producing an alkyl methacrylate.SOLUTION: A method of producing an alkyl methacrylate includes reacting carbon monoxide and a 1-3C alcohol with methylacetylene in the presence of a catalyst comprising a group 10 metal compound, protonic acid and a phosphine compound, wherein methylacetylene of which the propadiene content is 50 wt.ppm or less is used, an amount of use of the methylacetylene is 200,000 mol or more with respect to 1 mol of the group 10 metal compound, and the above reaction is performed in the presence of water of 40,000 mol or less with respect to 1 mol of the group 10 metal compound.
