Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a membrane electrode assembly capable of enhancing catalyst reactivity of a membrane electrode assembly.SOLUTION: A method of depositing a membrane electrode assembly 7 in an evacuated processing container includes a deposition step for depositing the membrane electrode assembly 7 in consistent vacuum without exposing to the atmosphere. The membrane electrode assembly 7 is formed by depositing in the order of a cathode layer 3, an electrolyte layer 4 and an anode layer 5, or an anode layer 5, an electrolyte layer 4 and a cathode layer 3 on a substrate, i.e., a lower separator 2. Since not only the electrolyte layer 4 but also the membrane electrode assembly 7 including the cathode layer 3 and anode layer 5 is formed in consistent vacuum within the evacuated processing container, the boundary surface of the electrolyte layer 4 and the cathode layer 3 and anode layer 5 can be protected against oxidation or contamination incident to exposure to the atmosphere. |
