Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens enabling a compact configuration while restricting an increase in lens diameter even though the zoom lens has a large aperture diameter, is bright, and has high variable power.SOLUTION: In a zoom lens that varies power by moving a plurality of lens groups in the direction of an optical axis when varying power, a lens group closest to an object side has a positive refractive power and composed of a single positive lens, and the following conditional expressions are satisfied: (1) Fno<2.7 and (2) 3.1<f/f, where Fnois the F number of the zoom lens at a wide angle end, fis the focal distance of the entire zoom lens system at a telephoto end, and fis the focal distance of the entire zoom lens system at a wide angle end.
