Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently and stably obtain 1,1,1,2,3-pentachloropropane, in a production method for 1,1,1,2,3-pentachloropropane, comprising a first step of obtaining 1,1,1,3-tetrachloropropane by reacting ethylene with carbon tetrachloride produced by reaction of chlorine and methyl chloride and/or reaction of methanol and hydrogen chloride and a second step of obtaining 1,1,1,2,3-pentachloropropane by dehydrochlorination and chlorination of 1,1,1,3-tetrachloropropane obtained in the first step.SOLUTION: As bromide impurities affect reaction of a second step, a production method performs at least one of a step of purifying before a first step carbon tetrachloride to decrease the total bromide amount to be ≤30 ppmw and a step of decreasing after the first step but before the second step the total bromide amount in the 1,1,1,3-tetrachloropropane to ≤30 ppmw.
