Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an X-ray foreign object detection apparatus having an X-ray generator unit appropriately positioned vertically above a central portion of an X-ray detector, which avoids resolution degradation of an X-ray image due to misalignment of the X-ray generator unit.SOLUTION: An X-ray foreign object detection apparatus includes; an X-ray sensor 51 having a TDI read-out mode, where synthetic data produced by means of time delay integration is output, as well as a frame read-out mode, where detection data for each detection element array is output as a two-dimensional X-ray image; a fixture which is removably attached on top of the X-ray sensor 51 and comprises a tabular shielding member with a plurality of vertical holes formed therethrough; an adjustment determination unit 81 which determines a direction and amount of positional adjustment of an X-ray tube 31 required to place the X-ray tube 31 vertically above a central portion of the detection element arrays based on the two-dimensional X-ray image generated in the frame read-out mode: a display 5 for displaying the direction and amount of adjustment; and a support mechanism 100 for supporting the X-ray tube 31 such that the position of the X-ray tube 31 is adjustable on a plane that is in parallel with a belt surface 2a.
