PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stencil printing apparatus which can resume a plate making step without wasting a master and working hours in the return operation when the apparatus stops emergently in the plate making step and the plate making operation is interrupted.SOLUTION: A stencil printing apparatus includes at least an image reading means 7, a plate making means 3, a plate cylinder 9 and a stencil discharging means 5. In the stencil printing apparatus 1 which operates a plate making step consisting of an image reading operation, plate making operation, winding operation and stencil discharging operation, a plate making image region identifying means and a writing completion determining means 81 are provided therein. When the plate making operation is interrupted due to the emergent stopping of the apparatus, in case it is determined with the writing completion determining means that the writing in the plate making image region has not yet finished, the stencil discharging operation is performed as the return operation. When it is determined with the writing completion determining means that the writing in the plate making image region is completed, the plate making operation of a non-plate making is performed as the return operation.
