Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell system capable of inhibiting degradation in power generation efficiency while keeping costs low.SOLUTION: The fuel cell system generates electricity by supplying hydrogen and an air to a fuel cell that includes a plurality of cells containing a low-EW ionomer in a catalyst layer, and causing an electrochemical reaction between the hydrogen and oxygen in the air in the cells. When the output difference P between a target output Pt and a measured output P of the fuel cell exceeds a prescribed value, a target heating value Qt is determined by application of a predetermined relation between an ionomer shrinkage factor δ and a heating value Q, a target output voltage Et is calculated from the target heating value Qt, a target stoichiometric ratio STt is determined by application of a predetermined relation between an output voltage E and a stoichiometric ratio ST, and a diffusion resistance-suppressing operation is performed to supply the air to the fuel cell in such a manner as to achieve the target stoichiometric ratio STt.
