Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display device that allows a user to appropriately view both a stereoscopic video and a plane video without being restricted by an optical viewing environment.SOLUTION: A video display device includes: an image panel unit 101 that creates an image for stereoscopic video display or an image for plane video display; and a parallax barrier unit 106 that is arranged facing and separated from the image panel unit 101, partially blocks light from the image panel unit 101 in viewing a stereoscopic video, and transmits light on the entire surface in viewing a plane video. The parallax barrier unit 106 includes a translucent substrate 107, and a plurality of belt-like modulation units 108 including an electrochromic material arranged on the translucent substrate 107.
