Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform communication between an image processing part and a plurality of head control parts without applying a load to a main control part in a printing apparatus that includes a plurality of head control parts.SOLUTION: A printing apparatus includes: a plurality of head control parts that control each of a plurality of print heads; an image processing part that communicates with a plurality of head control parts through general-purpose buses; a main control part that controls the head control part through the image processing part and the general purpose buses; and a switching means that periodically switches a first mode in which a main control part controls the head control part through the image processing part and the general-purpose bus, and a second mode in which the image processing part controls communication of messages through the general-purpose buses between the image processing part and a plurality of head control parts.
