Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging optical system and an imaging apparatus that have excellent infrared cutting functions and prevent the occurrence of ghost light caused by infrared cutting structures.SOLUTION: An imaging optical system includes: a front lens group 5 placed on an object side; an optical prism 6 that is placed on a light emission side of the front lens group 5 and causes the light flux incident from the front lens group 5 to be emitted while being bent by 90 degrees; and a rear lens group 7 placed on an emission surface 6b side of the optical prism 6 so as to be positioned between an imaging element 3 and the emission surface 6b. The emission surface 6b of the optical prism 6 is applied with IR cut coating 17.
