Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable battery in which degradation of battery performance is minimized and long life is ensured by suppressing the influence of expansion/contraction of an electrode on the battery, thereby maintaining conduction of the electrode and a collector.SOLUTION: In the secondary battery C, a square cell 5 is formed by an insulating rectangular frame member 6, and planar positive electrode collector 7 and negative electrode collector 8 disposed to face each other in the Z direction so as to cover the frame member 6. In the cell 5, an electrode body 1 constituted of a positive electrode group 2 consisting of a pair of strip-like positive electrodes 2a and a strip-like plate 2b of nickel plating steel sheet, a strip-like negative electrode 3 containing a negative electrode active material, and a separator 4 folded like a pleat is housed together with an electrolyte. The positive electrode group 2 is constituted so that the plate 2b is sandwiched by a pair of positive electrodes 2a, and projects from both ends thereof in the width direction (Z direction).
