PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To incorporate an air maintenance feature into a tire that re-inflate the tire in order to compensate normal air diffusion over time without the need of driver intervention.SOLUTION: A method of producing a tire having an associate air maintenance pumping assembly includes: producing an elongate strip core; housing the strip core in a flexible tire component in a container in the uncured flexible tire component, the elongate strip core extending between an air inlet cavity and an air outlet cavity; producing a green tire carcass on a tire production drum from a plurality of tire components comprising the flexible tire component and the housed strip core; removing the housed strip core from the cured flexible tire component so that a substantially unfilled air passage remains in the flexible tire component; and inserting an air inlet assembly into the air inlet cavity and an air outlet assembly into the air outlet cavity.
