Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a turbine in which an axial thrust of a balancing piston can be varied during an operation.SOLUTION: A turbine includes: a stator (10) and a rotor (20) supported in the stator; a plurality of turbine stages (30), which are formed by the rotor and the stator and arranged successively in a longitudinal direction (LR) and through which a fluid path extends; a balancing piston (40), which is arranged at the rotor and which includes a first chamber (41) connected to one (30.1) of the turbine stages via a first line (51) so that a fluid can be conveyed from one stage into the first chamber under a first pressure, and which includes a second chamber (42) adapted to have a counter pressure lower than the first pressure so that a thrust opposed to a flow direction of the fluid passing through the turbine stages can be added to the rotor by the balancing piston; and a control device (60) which is connected to the second chamber and varies the counter pressure. The control device varies the counter pressure by controlled removal of the fluid from the second chamber so that the thrust of the balancing piston can be varied during an operation.
