Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording apparatus having a recording medium and a recording unit arranged at a fixed distance, irrespective of the thickness of the recording medium.SOLUTION: The ink jet recording apparatus includes: a first conveying roller 60; a pinch roller 61 which holds a recording paper sheet 12 with the first conveying roller 60, to conveys it along a conveying passage 65, and moves vertically 7 closed to/apart from the first conveying roller 60 according to the thickness of the recording paper sheet 12 to be held; a first coil spring 91 for biasing the pinch roller 61 with respect to the first conveying roller 60; a platen 42 for supporting the recording paper sheet 12 on the downstream side in the conveying direction from the first conveying roller 60; a recording unit which is arranged facing the platen 42, and discharges ink drop, and records the image on the recording paper sheet 12 supported by the platen 42; and an interlocking unit 70 which moves the platen 42 along with the vertical 7 movement of the pinch roller 61, while maintaining the same vertical 7 distance to the pinch roller 61.
