Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discriminate which cellular phone issues a recording instruction when a content is recorded by a recording and reproducing apparatus in response to the recording instruction from a cellular phone having a remote control function for the recording and reproducing apparatus.SOLUTION: After key input processing for designating a channel and a time (e.g., recording start time) of a program scheduled to be recorded is performed by operating a key input section 3, when a transmission key of the key input section 3 is depressed, a cellular phone 10 performs infrared output of characteristic information stored in a characteristic information storage section 6 and operation data designated by the key input processing, to a recording and reproducing apparatus 20. Upon receiving a recording instruction from the cellular phone 10, the recording and reproducing apparatus 20 records the content instructed to be recorded, while performing scrambling processing (encrypting processing) on the content and stores the content corresponding to the characteristic information.
